This summery fruit salad is great for a summer party, bbq or potluck. Every bite is like you are tasting summer with the fresh honey basil dressing that coats each piece of fruit and marinates them with even more flavor.
Why I Love This Recipe
I can't believe I don't have a fruit salad recipe on here yet. I live in the midwest, so maybe its a midwest thing but almost every time that I've been to a summer BBQ/party there is a summer salad. Not mad about it!
This fruit salad embodies summer flavors with fresh basil, strawberries, blueberries, melon, kiwi and a sweet kick of honey.
This fruit salad will make many servings, the amount of servings will vary but I would say this recipe makes about 15 servings (15 cups).
If you are looking for the nutritional information, it is below the recipe.
Another thing to note about this recipes is that if you are going to make it ahead of time, do not add in the strawberries. All the other fruit is fine to mix ahead of time but the strawberries do not hold well in this fruit salad overnight in the refrigerator.
Ingredients
For the honey basil dressing, here is what you will need.
- Honey: I used ¼ cup honey for this recipe. You can sub agave nectar as well if you wanted to go the vegan route. I haven't tried maple syrup but due to the viscosity of maple syrup mixed with the fruit, the salad might be more watery than desired.
- Basil: Use freshly minced basil! Dried basil will not work for this recipe and won't give it the flavor of fresh basil.
- Lemon juice: I juiced half a lemon or ~2 tablespoons of lemon juice. If you don't have lemon, you can sub lime.
- Fruit: I used a mixture of blueberries, kiwi, lemon and strawberries.
If you are going to swap out of the fruits for another, note that lemon, kiwi and blueberries really hold up well in a fruit salad. Other fruit like watermelon could make the salad more watery.

How to Make Fruit Salad
Cut and wash the fruit you are going to use. Remember to wash the melon before cutting into it! You don't want whatever was on the outside of the melon to be cut into the melon part you eat!
Whisk the honey, basil and lemon juice in the bottom of a large bowl.
Place in the fruit you want and gently toss around with a spatula so the basil coats each piece of fruit.
You can serve immediately or place it to chill in the refrigerator for a couple hours prior to serving.
As I said before, if you are prepping it a day ahead of eating it I would not add the strawberries until just before eating.

Description
This summery fruit salad is great for a summer party, bbq or potluck. Every bite is like you are tasting summer with the fresh honey basil dressing that coats each piece of fruit and marinates them with even more flavor.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup honey (can sub agave nectar)
- ½ lemon, juiced (or ~2 tbsp)
- 2 tbsp fresh basil, minced (about 6-8 leaves)
- 4 small kiwis, cut into segments
- 1 lb strawberries, sliced
- 1 melon, cut into bite sized pieces
- 2 pints of blueberries
Instructions
- Cut and wash the fruit.
- Mix the honey, basil and lemon juice in the bottom of a large bowl.
- Place the fruit in the bowl and gently toss with a spatula to combine.
- Place in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes, or serve immediately. If you are prepping the night before, do not add in the strawberries. They do not keep well in salad overnight.
Notes
- If you wanted to swap out the fruit for different kinds of fruit like pineapple, peaches, other hard melon- these will work.
- I would not recommend raspberries, watermelon or any other fruit that wouldn't "hold shape well" or contribute more liquid to the salad.
